Paraguay Exports Industrial Cannabis Flowers to Switzerland for the First Time
The Paraguayan Industrial Cannabis Chamber (CCIP) has secured its first export contract for “kuñataî”, an industrial cannabis flower variety, to Switzerland valued at USD 6 million. The agreement includes the annual shipment of four tons of the product, officially registered with the National Service for Plant Quality and Seed Health (Senave).
“Kuñataî”, Paraguay's first registered female strain, is distinguished by its high concentration of trichomes and terpenes, components highly valued in international markets. The cultivation is carried out through family farming in collaboration with Senave, following strict quality control protocols.
Production plans to meet Swiss demand will begin in February 2025, involving producers from Nueva Italia, Areguá, Iruña, and Hernandarias. Currently, legal industrial cannabis cultivation extends across 14 of the country's 17 departments, demonstrating the sector's growth potential.
CCIP has identified 23 additional companies interested in Paraguayan industrial cannabis, primarily in the European market. Germany stands as one of the next potential export destinations, which could significantly expand the product's commercial reach.

The initiative is supported by institutions including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the National Anti-Drug Secretariat.
The industry's development promises to generate triple impact: social, economic, and environmental. According to Marcelo Demp, CCIP president, the sector could significantly contribute to tax revenue through the application of Selective Consumption Tax, similar to tobacco and alcohol.
